Ringwood Bowling Club

 So, you thought that the Cricket World Cup finale was the best, most exciting, end to a sporting match, EVER.

Well, those pictured above together with the spectators on the night may disagree with you. A report from Barry Vaughan follows:-

24 Hours earlier, the Men's 1st Team became New Forest League Champions again, defeating Fordingbridge at Home. Well done to Derick and all those who played on Tuesday nights. This century, only three clubs have become New Forest League Champions. Ringwood 13 times, Brockenhurst 4 times and Fordingbridge 3 times.

Also on Tuesday, Lee Croad travelled to Southampton Old Bowling Green to play Ken Dow in his latest National Champion of Champions match. He came away with a WIN, 16-21, to secure his place in the Hampshire / Isle of Wight Area Final. Well Done Lee.

We had a visitor on Tuesday morning. Nigel Hurl was spending a few days in Ringwood and he popped in to say hello and have a chat. He also watched a few ends of the matches that were taking place. Good to see you Nigel. We all wish you well and good luck in the, soon to be here, Footy Season.

Overall last week, of the 6 League matches played, Ringwood won 1, lost 4 and drew 1.

Tuesday 16th July. NFWBA Ladies' 1st Team No Game. B&DWBA Championships. 

Tuesday 16th July. NFWBA Ladies' 2nd Team No Game. B&DWBA Championships.

Tuesday 16th July. NFBA Men's 1st Team at Home versus Fordingbridge. A third consecutive win, 6-2, confirmed Ringwood as League Champions for the second year in succession. Shots were 68-59.

Tuesday 16th July. NFBA Men's A Team Away versus Fordingbridge A. A third consecutive loss, 7-1, leaves the A Team rooted to the bottom of the table. Shots were 81-61.

Thursday 18th July. B&DWBA Ladies' Team at Home versus Broadstone Wessex. Another drawn match 3-3 leaves Ringwood in 3rd place on 45 points.

Thursday 18th July. NFBA Men's B Team No Game.

Saturday 20th July. B&DBA Men's 1st Team Away versus Knyveton Gardens. A 10-4 loss drops Ringwood down two places into sixth. Shots were 86-67.

Saturday 20th July. B&DBA Men's A Team at Home versus Wimborne A . A 2-12 loss drops Ringwood one place into fourth slot. Shots were 72-86.

Saturday 20th July. B&DBA Triples B Team Away versus Milford C. A very close match which unfortunately resulted in a 4-2 loss. Shots were 31-29.

1st Poulner Adventure Scouts Bowls Evening

On Thursday evening, the 1^st Poulner Adventure Scouts visited Ringwood Bowling Club for an evening of bowls. 17 enthusiastic, scouts aged between 14 and 18 turned up for a fun evening with plenty of helpers from our club.                                   They aimed at skittles, found their way through hurdles changing the bias along the way, tried target bowls and aimed at a jack with coloured discs marking the way. Many showed natural ability, but all had a great time.                                                       After refreshments of cheese, jam sandwiches and biscuits (there were no leftovers) they could choose were they wanted to bowl. All 6 rinks were occupied with more Ringwood bowlers joining in. We all received a huge scout BRAVO at the end and individual thanks from all the scouts, including handshakes.

Thank you to everyone that helped to make this a success but more importantly a great, fun evening.

Dave Lewis extends a Great Thank You to all those who turned out this morning to do Hedge Cutting and Perimeter Weeding.

The exercise went so well that the work was completed and therefore next Mondays session, set aside for finishing the work, is now CANCELLED.

Congratulations to Pete Ward who has reached the Hampshire 2 Wood Singles Final. On Monday, he defeated Mark Hammond of Southsea Waverley 15-6 in the Quarter Final and then John Keat of Atherley 16-4 in the Semi Final. The Final will be played on Saturday 7th September at Atherley. Commiserations to Lee Croad who lost his Hampshire 2 Wood Singles Quarter Final match 15-8 against Leo May of Headley.

On Tuesday, Lee Croad won his latest National Champion of Champions Hampshire Area match 21-18 against Martin Butchers of Plessey Radar Bowling Club which is on the Isle of Wight.

On Thursday Pete Ward and Sharon Varndell travelled to the Isle of Wight to play their National Mixed Pairs Hampshire Area Semi Final match. Unfortunately, they lost this close match against Martin Butchers of Plessey Radar, 19-16.

Yesterday at Atherley, Lee Croad and Pete Ward won their Hampshire Men's Pairs Quarter Final match 24-15 against Jim Heard and Ray Long of Fleming Park. However, they then went on to, unfortunately, lose their Semi Final match 18-17 against Jon Leggett and Paul Cooke of Southsea Waverley. They go on to play their 3rd/4th Play-Off match at Banister Park on Sunday 21st July.

 Overall last week, of the 9 League matches played, Ringwood won 4, lost 4 and drew 1.

Tuesday 9th July. NFWBA Ladies' 1st Team Away versus Lyndhurst. A 4-2 loss leaves Ringwood in 3rd place, level on points with New Milton and Brockenhurst and seven points behind the leaders Highcliffe.

Tuesday 9th July. NFWBA Ladies' 2nd Team at Home versus Highcliffe 1. A 0-6 loss leaves Ringwood in 2nd place, one point behind Highcliffe 2 who have a game in hand.

Tuesday 9th July. NFBA Men's 1st Team Away versus Brockenhurst. A great 2-6 win confirms Ringwood's 1st place position, 16.5 points ahead of Fordingbridge.

Tuesday 9th July. NFBA Men's A Team at Home versus Highcliffe. Another loss, 1.5-6.5, in a close fought match leaves Ringwood second from bottom and nine points from safety. Shots were, 55-58.

Thursday 11th July. B&DWBA Ladies' Team Away versus Swanmore. A drawn match 3-3 (40-40) leaves Ringwood in 3rd place on 42 points.

Thursday 11th July. NFBA Men's B Team at Home versus Highcliffe B. A fine 7-1 win, shots 72-54, keeps Ringwood on top by two points from Milford A who have a game in hand. Another 8 points from the last two games will guarantee promotion.

Saturday 13th July. B&DBA Men's 1st Team at Home versus Kings Park. A great 14-0 win, shots 110-52, raises Ringwood to 4th place in the table.

Saturday 13th July. B&DBA Men's A Team Away versus Swanage. Another very close game against Swanage, by only 3 shots this time, resulted in a 4-10 win. This places Ringwood 3rd in the table, two points behind Swanage.

Saturday 13th July. B&DBA Triples B Team at Home versus Pelhams Sharks. A 0-6 loss to second place to Pelhams Sharks leaves Ringwood in 4th spot.

Volunteers are required for the cutting of hedges around the perimeter of the bowling green and car park.

This work is planned to take place on the mornings of Monday 15^th July and Monday 22^nd July.

The work is scheduled to take place between the hours of 08:30 and 12:30, approximately, on each day.   

Your help will be greatly appreciated on either or both of these mornings.
