President's Charity Day

Our President, Sharon, hosted her Charity Day event today on a wonderfully warm Sunday afternoon.

After a warm welcome and group photos, four rinks of Triples were contested between the Ladies and a Men's Top Team.

The friendly matches were played competitively but in good spirit and at the end the Men were victorious, winning all four rinks and by 98 shots to 64.

After the matches, a sumptuous meal, supplied by the Ladies, was enjoyed by all and was followed by the raffle and short speeches from President Sharon and Club Captain Derrick.

A total of £211 was raised on the day for Sharon's chosen Charity, 'Cash for Kids'.

Well done Sharon and the Ladies for a wonderful afternoon of Bowls.

Battling illness, Lee Croad put up a sterling effort in his encounter with Chris Daniels (Boscombe Cliff)  for the B&DBA Champion of Champions Trophy. Unfortunately, he lost the early morning match 21-9 but he hopes to be fully fit for next Sunday's Men's Singles Final against John Thomas.

The Autumn Triples Final was held over 16 ends in the late afternoon of Thursday. After a good start, Chris, Denis and Brian got stuck on 6 shots which allowed Eileen, Fred and Sharon to forge ahead. Their late rally however, was not quite enough to get them back into contention and the final score was 20-13.

Pictured from left to right are the winners Eileen Clarke, Fred Alderman and Sharon Vardell then runners-up Brian Harrington, Chris Dalrymple and Denis Carr. Well done to all who took part in the competition. Also, a big thank you to Doug Jones who organised and ran the event.

Earlier in the week, on Monday, in the pouring rain at Southbourne, Sharon Varndell won the B&DWBA Lilian Lynex Trophy. The tightly contested match against June Farrer of Braeside ended in a draw. On the extra end Sharon gave up the mat and didn't need to bowl her last wood and it ended 15-14. Well done Sharon.

At last, pictures are now in of the Winners of the Lester Brunt Triples Tournament played on September 1st. The team comprising Steve Van Wyk, Derrick Fulker and Helen Blackiston won the Trophy, defeating a Bournemouth team 10-4. Our other team, comprising Fred Alderman, Doug Jones and Barry Vaughan also did well, reaching the semifinal stage. Well Done Ringwood.
